Stan Weinstein splits a stock’s cycle into four stages: a base, an advance, a top and a decline. The best time to own a stock is early in the advance. This scan finds stocks in Stage 2A, the first completed week of a Stage 2 advance: the week price broke above a rising 30-week moving average after a Stage 1 base or a Stage 4 decline. The stage is read off completed weeks, so the list changes once a week, after Friday’s close. Results are ranked by Mansfield relative strength against the S&P 500, strongest first, because a breakout that is already beating the market is the one Weinstein’s checklist favors. Only names averaging at least $10 million of daily dollar volume over the past 50 sessions are kept. To keep only the strong ones, add a minimum Mansfield RS of 0 in the scanner.
