Alerts watch the market for you and tell you when something happens: a price crosses your level, a stock jumps 5% in ten minutes, or a saved scan finds a new ticker. The scanner answers "what matches right now" when you click Scan. An alert keeps asking for you and speaks up when the answer changes.

    Kinds of alert

Every alert has the same four parts: what it watches, the condition, how often it may fire, and where it sends.

    AlertIt watchesIt fires whenPlan
Price levelOne tickerThe price crosses above, below or through your level.Free
Price rangeOne tickerThe price enters or leaves a band you set.Free
% moveA ticker, a watchlist or a universeThe price rises or falls a set % within a window of 1 to 60 minutes.Free (universe: Super)
Day changeA ticker, a watchlist or a universeThe price is up or down a set % from the previous close.Free (universe: Super)
Saved scanOne of your saved scansA background rerun finds at least the number of new tickers you asked for.Super

A watchlist alert covers every ticker on the list and follows the list as you add and remove tickers. A universe alert covers a whole index, theme or industry, or every US stock. Price and move alerts are covered in Price and move alerts, scan alerts in Scan alerts.

On the Free plan, price and move alerts check 15-minute delayed prices, so one can fire up to 15 minutes after the move. Super and Super Pro check realtime prices. See Data delays and market hours.

    Tour

The meters at the top show how many alerts you have and how many notifications you've used today.

The Alerts section of the sidebar holds the hub:

    • Inbox: every alert that fired, newest first, with why it fired and where it went.
    • My alerts: every alert you've set, in one table you can search, filter, group, pause and edit.
    • Routing: a map of which delivery profile and channels each alert sends to, with the fires held back and why.
    • Delivery: your channels, delivery profiles, quiet hours, the pause switch and your daily limits.
    • New alert (top right): opens the composer.
    • Meters (top): Rules, Rule pushes today and Scan pushes today, each as used out of your limit.

    Set up an alert

You can open the composer from anywhere you see a ticker, a list or a scan. It opens filled in with what you came from.

    • New alert at the top of any Alerts hub page.
    • Set alert on a ticker's page. When you already have alerts on the ticker, the button shows how many and lists them.
    • Right-click a ticker in a results grid or a watchlist, then Create alert for $TICKER.
    • The bell on a row of the Hot tickers or Watchlist dashboard card, or Alert on this list on a watchlist card.
    • The ticker chart: right-click the price panel, or a horizontal line you drew. See Chart alert lines.
    • The save-scan form: Alert me when this scan finds new tickers.

The steps for each kind are in Price and move alerts and Scan alerts.

    • Only Active alerts count toward your alert limit. A paused or triggered alert doesn't.
    • The daily limits count notifications that interrupt you: push, browser push and email. A burst sent as one notification counts once. Every fire still lands in your Inbox after you reach the limit.
    • Days run on UTC, so the counts reset at midnight UTC.
    • You can lower either daily limit in Delivery > Daily limits. You can't raise it past your plan's.

    Tips

    • Use Once per session for a move you want to hear about once a day. Every time with a short cooldown can send the same ticker many times on a choppy day.
    • Put alerts that matter at any hour on the Urgent profile, and set quiet hours for the rest. See Alert delivery and the Inbox.
    • On a busy watchlist, start with a bigger move, such as 5% in 5 minutes. Fires close together arrive as one notification, but each one still counts in the Inbox.
