    Indicator filters

Available on: Web · iOS · Android

    On this page

Indicator filters screen on scores scanr computes for every stock: where it ranks against the market, how cleanly it trends, how strong its group is. They answer questions like "is this stock in the top 20% of the market?" or "is its sector strong too?".

A technical filter runs a study you configure on the stock's bars. An indicator has nothing to configure. You pick it, set a rule, and the scan reads the score.

    Tour

The highlighted part of each histogram is the share of stocks your rule keeps.

    • Indicator (Group Strength, Relative Strength): click it to pick another (Find indicator…).
    • days ago: which session's value to read. latest is the most recent one.
    • Condition: Greater than, Crosses above, Range and the rest.
    • Compare: Value tests a number. Self tests the indicator against its own earlier value.
    • Value: the number to compare with. The box keeps it inside the indicator's range.
    • within N bars: how many recent sessions to check. With 5, the rule only has to hold on one of the last five.
    • Distribution: where every stock sits on this indicator. Drag it to set the value. It hides in Self mode, on narrow screens, and for the two market indicators, which have one value for everyone.
    • ⋯: Delete, Duplicate, Disable or Enable, and Reset to default.

    Create and configure

    1. Click + on a filter group (or Add filter in an empty group), then Indicator.
    2. Click the indicator name and pick one.
    3. Pick a condition, then Value or Self.
    4. Enter the value, or for Self, how many days back to compare with.
    5. Click Scan.

Compare an indicator with its own past

Self asks whether a score is rising or falling. Pick a condition, switch Value to Self, and set the second days ago box: 1 is the session before the one you read. Relative strength vs market Greater than Self 10 days ago finds stocks gaining strength over two weeks. Range isn't available in Self mode.

ATR is the average true range, a measure of how far a stock moves in a normal day. Stating extension in ATR units lets you compare a quiet utility with a volatile chip stock.

    Conditions

Greater than, Greater than or equal, Less than, Less than or equal, Equal to, Not equal to, Crosses above, Crosses under and Range. A cross needs the score to move through the value between two sessions. Combine it with within to catch a cross on any of the last N sessions.

    How fresh the values are

Relative strength and the regime scores update through the trading day. Group Strength settles at the end of the day: during the session it shows the group's reading from the day before. It also uses each ETF's current members, so on a past date it reflects today's grouping, not the grouping of that day.

    Plans

The three relative strength scores work on every plan. The other eight need Super or Super Pro.

On Free, you can add a paid indicator, but the row shows a lock and the scan stops with an error until you remove it. Hover the lock to see why.

    Recipes

    Relative strength leaders

Stocks over $500M that rank in the top 15% of the market, with the 50-day average above the 200-day.

    Filters

    • Market cap≥$500M
    • Relative strength vs market≥85
    • SMA(c,50)>SMA(c,200)
    How to use it

Use it as a leaders watchlist and buy pullbacks to support.

    Leaders in strong groups

    Super plan

Market leaders whose sector or theme ETF is itself trending up.

    Filters

    • Group strength≥10
    • Relative strength vs market≥80
    How to use it

A strong stock in a strong group has the wind at its back. Start your long ideas here.

    Warning

Group Strength settles at the end of the day, so it lags a sharp intraday rotation.

    Small-cap base breakout

    Super plan

Small caps from $300M to $2B pushing out of a quiet base, with extension and relative strength both rising over 10 sessions.

    Filters

    • Market capbetween$300M and $2B
    • Regime extension≥10
    • Regime extension greater than its value 10 bars ago
    • Trend efficiency≤30
    • Relative strength vs market greater than its value 10 bars ago
    How to use it

Check the chart for a tight range before the move, then trade the breakout with a stop under the base.

    Warning

Small caps break out and fail often. Size the position for it.

    Tips

    • Gate a long scan on the market: add Market Extension Greater than 0. The scan then only finds setups while the broad market trades above its average.
    • Use Sector RS to find the best stock in a sector you already like. Relative Strength ranks against everything, so it favors whatever sector leads the market.
    • Pair Trend Efficiency with Regime Extension. High extension with low efficiency means a stretched, choppy stock. The same extension with high efficiency means a clean trend.

    Troubleshooting

    IssueCauseSolution
My indicator row has a lock.Free plans can use the three relative strength scores only.Pick Relative Strength, Sector RS or Industry RS, or upgrade to Super.
"Indicator … is not available on the free tier."The scan holds a paid indicator, for example from a preset.Remove that row, or upgrade to Super.
The value box won't take my number. The box keeps values inside the indicator's range, such as 1 to 99 for relative strength.Enter a value inside the range in the Reference table.
I can't pick Range with Self.Self compares with one earlier value, so it has no range.Switch back to Value to use Range.
There's no histogram on Market Extension.Every stock has the same market value on a date, so there is nothing to spread out.Type the value.
